Anisa Rakaj

I was born in Albania and raised in Italy near Milan. My first memorable encounter with paintings was through Baroque art, and though I never paid attention to the Biblical stories depicted I appreciated the dark seductive nature of the images. My father’s work with mosaics instilled in me a strong appreciation for interior decoration and embellishments since a young age. In my work I stage scenes with specific things I’ve collected like backdrops, garments, and furniture to create open ended psychological narratives.
